Personal, Social, and Emotional Development

We support children in building positive, healthy relationships by helping them learn to respect others and develop a strong sense of self. Our activities are designed to boost confidence, encourage children to recognise their own abilities, and help them understand and manage their emotions. Through group play and shared experiences, children learn what good behaviour looks like, how to work together, and how to develop the social skills they need to thrive.

Communication and language Development

Children are immersed in a rich and diverse language environment where they can hear, use, and explore language in meaningful ways. Through conversations, stories, songs, role play, and everyday interactions, they build confidence in expressing their thoughts, needs, and ideas. We encourage children to talk, listen, take turns in conversation, and communicate in a variety of situations — from small‑group discussions to imaginative play. This supportive approach helps them develop strong communication skills, broaden their vocabulary, and feel confident using language to connect with others and make sense of the world around them.

Literacy Development

Children learn to connect sounds with letters and begin their early steps into reading and writing. Through playful phonics activities, mark‑making opportunities, and meaningful conversations, they start to recognise familiar words, explore letter shapes, and build the foundations for confident literacy skills. Our cosy Story and Reading Area offers a wide range of books to spark curiosity — from picture books and rhymes to sensory stories and early readers. This inviting space encourages children to explore stories independently, share books with friends, and develop a lifelong love of reading.

Understanding the World

Children are encouraged to explore and make sense of their physical surroundings and wider community by observing, investigating, and engaging with the world both indoors and outdoors. Through hands‑on experiences, they learn about people, places, technology, and the environment, developing a deeper understanding of how things work and how they are connected. Whether they are exploring nature, noticing changes in the seasons, learning about different cultures, or discovering how everyday tools and technology function, children build curiosity, confidence, and a growing awareness of the world around them.

Physical Development

Children are encouraged to be physically active throughout the day, helping them develop coordination, control, balance, and a wide range of movement skills. Through outdoor play, climbing, dancing, mark‑making, and hands‑on activities, they gain confidence in what their bodies can do and learn how to move safely and purposefully. We also support children in understanding the importance of being active and making healthy choices. By talking about food, modelling good habits, and offering nutritious meals, we help children build a positive relationship with physical activity and healthy eating that will benefit them as they grow.

Expressive Arts

Children are encouraged to express themselves freely using a wide range of media, materials, and creative opportunities. Through art, music, movement, dance, role play, design, and simple technology, they explore their ideas, experiment with new concepts, and share their thoughts and feelings in imaginative ways. These activities help children develop creativity, confidence, and problem‑solving skills while giving them the freedom to represent their experiences in their own unique style. By offering varied and open‑ended resources, we support children in becoming curious, expressive learners who enjoy creating and exploring.

Mathematics

Children are given daily opportunities to develop and strengthen their early mathematical skills. Through play‑based activities, they learn to count confidently, recognise and use numbers, and begin solving simple addition and subtraction problems in meaningful, hands‑on ways. We design enjoyable, practical experiences that help children explore shapes, space, patterns, and measures, encouraging them to describe what they see and make connections. By weaving maths into everyday routines — from snack time counting to outdoor number hunts — children begin to see numbers as a natural and exciting part of the world around them.
